A comparison of the effects of physical and chemical mutagens in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Begum,Tamina; Dasgupta,Tapash.
Three sesame genotypes (Rama, SI 1666 and IC 21706) were treated with physical (γ-rays: 200 Gy, 400 Gy or 600 Gy) or chemical (ethyl methane sulphonate, EMS: 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% or 2.0%) mutagens and their mutagenic effectiveness and efficiency were estimated in the M2 generation. The M3 generation was used to identify the most effective mutagen and dose for induction of mutations. The average effectiveness of EMS was much higher than γ-rays. The lowest dose of γ-rays (200 Gy) and the lowest concentration of EMS (0.5%) showed the highest mutagenic efficiency in all genotypes. Analysis of the M3 generation data based on parameters such as the variance ratio and the difference in residual variances derived from the model of Montalván and Ando indicated that...

ANALYZING AGRICULTURE PRODUCTIVITY INDICATORS AND IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON CEECS AGRICULTURE AgEcon
Singh, Mahesh Kumar; Kapuszta, Agnes; Fekete-Farkas, Maria.
The agriculture has an outstanding importance both in social and economic point of view, especially in the countries where the agriculture plays a vital role in economy. This paper mainly focuses on the situation in the Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs). The share of agriculture in CEECs is more significant both in GDP and employment than in the old member states of EU. To be competitive on the single market, we have to know the advantages and disadvantages, strength and weakness of different sectors of agriculture. Traditionally, in these countries to measure the effectiveness, the partial factor analyses are used. To get more accurate overview, we need to use more wide technique to sampling measurement. This paper summarizes the measurement...

Responsibility for the management of many protected areas in the Northern Territory, Australia, is shared between the management agency and the aboriginal owners of that land. We describe (1) the creation and types of indicators developed by partners in a participatory process to measure management effectiveness, (2) the assessment method used to monitor progress, and (3) the results of the first cycle of evaluations in four jointly managed parks. Although each pilot park area has distinctive features, we were able to identify a set of twelve common indicators that were applied across the four park areas. The agreed indicators, which were scored using a color scale to indicate level of achievement, were primarily concerned with process rather than outcome,...

Cost effectiveness of peginterferon alfa-2B combined with ribavirin for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in Brazil BJID
Fonseca,Marcelo Cunio Machado; Araújo,Gabriela Tannus Branco de; Araújo,Denizar Vianna.
The treatment of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) with peginterferon alpha-2b/ribavirin (PegIFN + Rib) produced larger sustained viral response (SVR) compared to the conventional (non-pegylated) interferon/ribavirin (IFN + Rib), but its cost-effectiveness was not assessed in Brazil. We developed a Markov model to mirror the natural disease history and cohorts of patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV), that received PegIFN + Rib or IFN + Rib treatment for 48 or 24 weeks, according to viral genotype and liver histology. The SVRs for the treatments PegIFN + Rib and IFN + Rib were respectively 48% and 34% (genotype 1), and 88% and 80% (genotype non-1). Three Delphi panels were conducted with hepatologists and intensivists, and another one with oncologists. The costs...

The objective of this paper was to analyze the risk protection provided by the futures contracts traded at CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) at different delivery months to Brazilian Soybean hedgers. The empirical approach adopted was the estimation of hedging effectiveness between every Brazilian production state and the CBOT futures contracts. The results showed that the contracts for delivery in the second semester are more effective, mainly those for delivery in July and August. Moreover, supply shocks in the U.S. can make even the contracts for delivery in November and January to be very effective because of stronger procurement for Brazilian soybeans. The results also show that hedging effectiveness is larger near export harbors, as they were the cases...
